{"id":25,"date":"2005-08-23T21:09:27","date_gmt":"2005-08-24T04:09:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/potlach.org\/feast\/?p=25"},"modified":"2005-08-23T21:09:27","modified_gmt":"2005-08-24T04:09:27","slug":"search-to-find","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/potlach.org\/feast\/2005\/08\/23\/search-to-find\/","title":{"rendered":"search to find"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>News.com picked up on some of the new work thats going on in the acedemic search \/ information management space in their article <a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/Academias+quest+for+the+ultimate+search+tool\/2100-1038_3-5831050.html\">Academia\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s quest for the ultimate search tool<\/a> citing Berkeley\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new interdisciplinary department focus on search technology, CMU\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lti.cs.cmu.edu\/Research\/JAVELIN\/\">Javelin<\/a> work focused on Question Answering search technology and MIT\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"http:\/\/simile.mit.edu\/\">Simile<\/a> project.<\/p>\n<p>I particularly like the susinct point MacKenzie makes regarding the benifits of the semantic web architecture that Simile has developed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><cite><br \/>\nA generalized data archive lets you make data work together in ways you couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t before<br \/>\n<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>MIT\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s  <a href=\"http:\/\/start.csail.mit.edu\/\">START<\/a> system based on formalizing \/ mining metadata composed of natural language phrases and sentences I think is another one thats worth mentioning in this space. Opening up a RDF  interface to this data in  I think would be particularly interesting.<\/p>\n<p>One search engine can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do everything. Different search engines \/ strategies will be more effective at addressing different tasks.
